Afsaal is a picnic rest stop on the tar road between Malelane and Skukuza. We arrived there by taking the gravel Voortrekker Road from Pretoriuskop and stopped for a bit of breakfast. Though it is called a "picnic spot", it also has a small restaurant serving nice breakfast dishes (and sandwiches, etc. later) for good prices like all the quick-stop restaurants at Kruger rest Camps.

Afsaal was a very pleasant, shady little place to stop for a bit of breakfast.

There were lots of hornbills around the picnic tables.

While speaking with someone else there, they asked "Did you see the Rhino on your way in?" and said that just 500 meters up the road (the other direction than the one we had come from) was a family of 5 rhinos. We quickly finished up and dashed to the car and headed up the road. Sure enough, the rhino were still there! Fantastic!
