I have seen this restaurant many times, i used to live right down the street from it, i never visited however because it used to be an IHOP and since i found another breakfast restaurant across town called Leroy's all these Denny, IHOP's and the like never compared to the price, amount and quality of food. I visited Birchtree Dining on 7/30/09 for the first time after going to the Emergency room and had the Birchtree skillet, it was great, everything was great, same as leroy's just had different names on the menu, i swear someone that worked at Leroy's must have opened Birchtree, the service was great also but then.....I went the 2nd time on 8/18/09, my roommate that i lived with close by there that is about to become my ex roommate as i am moving out and getting married wanted to go there for his birthday dinner, we had the Northern lights coupon book that had a coupon in there for 50% off the 2nd meal, i wasn't going to use the coupon for his birthday but he suggested it also so we did, we got there and almost immediately the waitress asked if we were ready to order, that annoyed me because i'd at least like a chance to look at the menu for a minute before being asked, then what seemed like forever time went passed and she didn't return, my fiance went to get her to take our order, she said sorry my manager decided to feed me, we ordered, we asked if we could use 2 coupons as there were 4 of us and it did not say one per visit, they told us no (2nd thing that annoyed me), I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs this time, i wanted hashbrowns and pancakes with it, she said i could have hashbrowns and toast or pancakes (3rd thing that annoyed me) then that was the last we saw of her until she saw we were finished eating and came over so we could get to go boxes for our leftovers (4th thing that annoyed me is my tea never got refilled) then we asked for a military discount at check out, she gave me the discount for my meal, i said you only give it for mine, she said in order to give it to the rest i need to see military id's for everyone so everyone produced their ID's, this is the first time i have ever at any restaurant had to do this (needless to say this is the 5th thing that annoyed me). BTW. thanks MilwVon for the www.restaurant.com link also try www.KGOT.com, go to the VIP and then to the 1/2 price hook up to get $30 certificates for $15 to other restaurants in town, there is another radio station that does it but i don't remember who.

My husband and I lived in Anchorage for 4 years with the military and we both admit quite often that one of the things we miss most is Birchtree. Dennys ,Ihop and Village Inn are laughable and almost sickening now. It doesn't look like much from the outside and to be honest we probably never would have gone if it wasn't for a friend recommending the place but MAN am I glad we went. We never had dinner there only because we loved the breakfast so much we wanted to focus all of our attention on that. The service is so wonderful. We almost always had the same waitress and although I could never recall her name she was always so friendly and always remembered our order. If you go, you have to try the Birchtree skillet (it has reindeer which is delish!!!) or their skillet with the country gravy mmmmm. Portions are great, prices are great and the people are great. Seriously, the best breakfast in Anchorage

Admittedly, when we arrived here we were a bit skeptical. Looking somewhat like a typical Denny's with counter service at the front and booths around the perimeter of the restaurant, we weren't sure how good the food was.
Well, we were pleasantly surprised with not only the outstanding service but also the delicious dinner! Having just arrived in Anchorage that evening, I wasn't very hungry so the appetizer, salad, and steak sandwich were plenty for me. My husband shared in the appetizer sampler, had a salad, and feasted on fresh halibut. His steak had to be doggie-bagged and saved for breakfast the next day.
Do not be afraid to adventure outside of the downtown area of Anchorage and give this gem a try!!
