Description: We live in a city and escapes to places that promise fresh air and the natural outdoors often entice, we enjoy such interludes immensely and more so when we hit the magic moments of travel and stumble upon gems such as happened when we "found" this place.
This charming Inn with lots of warm hardwoods and carvings that could grace a museum has quickly become a favorite. Will, a welcoming host has the happy knack of making visitors feel instantly at home provides traditional and Irish fare in this customer friendly establishment.
The thirty four-seat dining room is filled with memorabilia of Ireland, ancestral photographs, and exquisitely crafted woodwork. Exposed wood beams give the room a warm atmosphere and the honey floors gleam. All tables are linen covered and because they belonged to Will’s grandmother are topped with glass.
We didn’t eat dinner the first time we visited but this time we ordered the Irish Portobello Mushrooms {the Vegetarians steak} the mushrooms were filled with crunchy cabbage and topped with provolone cheese. The huge mushroom was served on toasted Irish soda bread and accompanied by a chef salad. Neil had a well-poured Guinness with his meal and I opted for wine. Other Vegetarian choices were Vegetable Lasagna and Pasta Primavera.
Regular menu offerings included Mingo Chicken. "Chicken breast filet marinated with balsamic vinegar, grilled and garnished with sautéed walnuts, orange slices and cranberry compote." Roast beef. Corn beef & cabbage. Roasted salmon filet.
We were hoping to try the Lasagna on our second night, unfortunately the chef called in sick but in a very short time Will and his staff put on a very hearty buffet of roast beef, potatoes, various veggies and salad selections. Homemade breads including the Irish were also available. We appreciated that Will provided us a vegetarian meal. We opted for the easiest. Portobello mushrooms, and this time they were sautéed and topped with sauerkraut and three cheeses they were excellent.
Dessert was a generous strawberry shortcake and cream. We heard raves from the other diners regarding the roast beef.
Continental Breakfast is included for mid week stays. Try the Irish breakfast consisting of two eggs, Irish Bangers, paddy cake, fried tomato, mushrooms, and of course Irish Soda bread ($7 95. aproximately)
Don’t be surprised to find yourself tapping your feet to live music the pub which is connected to the dining room by only a doorway holds a piano and Will a member of the Soup kitchen folk group provides music every Saturday and impromptu jamming anytime.
The dining experience in Wills restaurant is fun with a family atmosphere; we enjoyed talking with many of his diners, prices are reasonable and reservations are recommended on weekends. His clients varied from a group of 50ish golfers a family of 6 including two children, 2 & 8, young couples, motorcyclists, and mountain bikers.
