Best Margarita in PV

We stayed on Los Muertos Beach area in January 2008 and frequented this restaurant. They have a wonderful beach side bar, and undoubtedly the very best Margaritas we had in PV. They have happy hour twice daily, and not only are the Margaritas great, but also HUGH. The dinner menu features Mexican Cuisine, and the chef is amazing. One of our fellow travellers absolutely loves Mexican food, and has travelled extensively in Mexico over the years. He declared the food to be some of the best he has tasted!

We love puerto vallarta! It is such a gastronomical wonder in the sense that it is the epicenter for great dining in Mexico (outside of Mexico City). That, coupled with being an international tourist destination makes PV such a gem.

I have to say that one of the best and overall joyful experiences we had this time around was at Epoca. A restaurant that sits below the condominiums vista del sol in the Romantic Zone of Old town. They are right on the beach and have many different options for dining.

The food is exquisite. We have been to la palapa and le bistro and all those more established places in town. But, in terms of the quality and preparation that Epoca´s chef has created, I would have easily and gladly paid as much as what those other places charge. However, the prices are so reasonable for their location that I hope it stays that way when they become more popular.

We had the Pork shank and the mexiprawns. We weren´t very hungry but after a couple fabulously refreshing mojitos on the beach during sunset we decided to stay and try the food. The mexiprawns blew me and my girlfriend away. They were cooked to perfection and glazed or touched with an amazing sauce. Then, we split the pork shank which was sitting on a bed of plantain and potatoe puree, amazing... and was doused with a subtle yet savory orange-cumin sauce.

We demanded to speak with the chef and he told us he had spent many years in the states studying under some great chefs, although he was from Guadalajara. Epoca has found an artist!

Long story short, we moved inside for a night cap at their beach bar and enjoyed wonderful ambient music, great conversation, and good people before, against our will, we headed to bed. It was unforgettable! Anyone looking for a casual but fun atmosphere, reasonable prices and superb quality in food you have to stop by epoca and see what they are all about.

They are doing a great job and I imagine with a couple more years underneath them they will be one of the most popular restaurants in a place that has way to many to choose from.

I have to share this little gem. I just got back from Vallarta, it's the perfect time to travel, the rains haven't started yet, and tourism is low.

My favorite place is Epoca Restaurant, beachside on the south end of the New Malecon.
It's well-worth the pleasant walk south from the busy heart of the old town - follow the malecon across the footbridge over the Rio Cuale, it's at the corner of Aquiles Serdan. An open air oasis on a hot day. The staff is great.

The food is excellent, higher end cuisine with a casual atmosphere for those that don't want to get dressed up to eat carefully prepared Mexican specialties with a twist; a big plus when you're wearing a sarong and sandals! The setting is refreshing, you even get to choose between sinking your toes in the sand and enjoying all the amenities of the restaurant, seated under a palapa on the beach, or inside, with the brightly colored tablecloths and red tile floor.

This is the best place to watch the sunset! They even set up nice candles and torches on the beach after dark.

Try the mojitos! The Margaritas are good, too, and if you're missing that favorite alcohol from home, the management has quite a good stock of scarce items, including Canadian Whiskey! It can't hurt to ask.
I just found a website for them, www.epoca-pv.com. The food is as good as it looks.

What a wonderful place. This restaurant/bar is located along the beach just south of the Rio Cuale in the old town/romantic zone. The restaurant maintains several tables under palapas on the beach and the main building is very open air, clean, and inviting. All this and the food and drinks are fantastic with a menu that consists of true Mexican regional food. They go to great pains to represent true Mexican cuisine without the flat and flavorless fajitas (they're more Tex than Mex) or blah and boring burritos.

We had several of the items on the menu and loved each one. The Garnachas, a small corn tortilla dipped in red enchilada sauce, grilled a tad, then topped with some grilled seafood, are so delicious we had them several times. A flash fried fish that is lightly battered and flash fried, served along with a habanero salsa for dipping... yummm. Chicken something-or-other with a 12 ingredient sauce has a very complex sauce that has a bunch of flavors that blend into a sublimely delicious dish. Red Snapper Tikin Xic is a catch for certain. Fresh whole fish with an achiote chili based sauce, I think. I can say a lot of things about the food, all of them high praise. After eating at several of the more hyped-up places in town, this is by far the best food we had during our entire trip. Outstanding? Fantastic? Exceptional? Yes to all the above. Most appetizers were in the $5-$7 range and most entrees were in the $10 to $15ish range. Combine the quality with a very reasonable price and you've got a winning combination.

Oh...and the mojitos. The most outstanding mojitos in town, bar none. Land during happy hour (12-2 and 4-6 daily ,except on Monday when they're closed). Happy hour drinks are 2-for-1 (unlike some of the joints across from the malecon. More on that in another review).

Anyhoo...we had the best mojitos we'd had all week. We had the best food we'd had all week. We had the best, most relaxing time we'd had all week. You need to put this restaurant/bar on your list of must eat/drink at places. Go have some mojitos and garnachas, soak in a lovely sunset as you sit there sipping and munching away, and have a great meal. If nothing else, at least go have a mojito on the beach and chill. You'll be glad you did.
