El Siboney

Cuban Cuisine:

I did some homework before we left to Key West. We decided, after reading many positive reviews on the Internet, to have a late lunch at El Siboney, a Cuban restaurant. It was raining a whole day, so it was a perfect moment to sit inside. Normally I prefer to sit outside when dining, especially in the Keys.

After we ordered, we did get a basket of delicious warm Cuban bread.

We had Ropa Viejo with yellow or white rice (you can choose) and black beans in a separate bowl. The meal we had was good, but not very special in my opinion. I think we were expecting too much after reading the very positive reviews on the Internet. Maybe we had to order something else. We didn’t want to wait for an hour to have there famous Paella. (Takes about an hour to prepare it.)

They have there own homemade Sangria, which was very tasty.

The ambiance isn't the most attractive, it’s the food why people are coming back! It’s a good place to have a great inexpensive meal.

Parking:
Street parking or get lucky and park your car at the small parking lot in front of the restaurant.

Location:
It’s in a residential neighborhood. If you want directions you can ask the concierge of your hotel or any local. Everybody seems to know about El Siboney It’s a local favorite!

Hours:
Monday-Saturday 11:00am to 9:30pm

Cash only!

We weren't all that hungry but wanted a GOOD pressed Cuban sandwich. We should have shared (the portions are large) but we both wanted a sandwich to ourself. OK, so we didn't finish, but the prices make it OK to want your own, order your own, and take the rest home. This is the place to go.

This family owned cornerstone of Key West is the leader in its field. The service is incredible, the ambience is homey and nice, and the food is out of this world. Go, enjoy, and write about how wonderful your experience was. You won't regret it. I am ready to take a road trip (8 hours) just for another meal at El Siboney.
