I went to East Ham (in East London, about 30-40 minutes on the tube from Central London) to meet a relative who was visiting London from Nepal. Getting out of the tube in East Ham station, I found the area to be similar to Jackson Heights in Queens, New York—distinctly Indian flavored with lots of Indian eateries and shops. There was even a Hindu temple down the block.
We walked around back and forth from the station, and finally settled in Chennai Dosa, a vegetarian South Indian place. Inside, it felt like being in a local eatery in Kerala, and the food was very authentic, probably better than any south Indian place in Jackson Heights that I’ve been to.
