Sounds of Silence Dinner

In the middle of Uluru National Park you will find, in the dead of the night, the Sounds of Silence Dinner. This is a must for anybody visiting this area!!! I have spent many years living in Australia and this is just incredible. You are taken by bus to the middle of nowhere, where you are greeted by servers handing you hot appetizers along with champagne and strawberries. For the ones who do not drink, there is coffee, hot chocolate, and other beverages.

There you sit and watch the magnificent sun set on Uluru and Kata Juta while trying some of the local fare, like ostrich and other yummy things. You also get to listen to someone playing the didgeridoo, which, if you have never heard, is one of the most incredible Aboriginal instruments (which both my husband and I play).

Once the sun sets, you are whisked off to another area where you are seated at tables of eight and are served Aussie wine and a magnificent buffet where you can also try some favorite local fare prepared in incredible ways. There are salads, kangaroo, and normal food if you're not into trying new things. But since you're in the Outback, you MUST try the local stuff. The kangaroo was incredible, as long as you can deal with eating a cute animal. There is then a buffet full of wonderful desserts, too!!

Once done with dinner, you have an astrologer come out and point out all the stars in the galaxy with his pointer. Hopefully you will have a clear night and see the Southern Cross

This is a MUST-DO if you're in the area. You can also try the breakfast at sunrise, which is also a spectacular thing to experience!! During this, you get to watch the sunrise on Uluru and have a buffet, and then they bring out lots of local animals for you to pet and see. We did both of these on the same trip and would definitely do them again when we go back!!

Also, the flies are not out at this time, so no worries there!!!!

Have a great time, and if you have any questions about Down Under don't hesitate to contact us!

The Sound of Silence dinner is a dining and astronomy experience under the stars of Ayers Rock, Australia.

You eat out in the middle of the desert with finely set tables, and wonderful food! It was bit chilly since it was winter, but we had a jacket and were fine.

After the meal a local astronomer showed us the various constellations. I never the saw the stars this bright!! They also had telescopes set up so you could see various starts up close.

I cost $120 per person, but it was a once in a lifetime experience. I'd recommend it to anyone.
