This is the place to eat if you want down-home, country cooking. It is a family syle eatery with antique and memorabilia surroundings, just looking around while you wait for your food is a treat. You may see old photos, signs, barn items, kid's toys, or just about anything you would see in the olden days. Ask for a table by the large wood-burning fireplace in the winter for an extra treat and you will find yourselves relaxing and having a grand old time.
The menu is extensive, especially at breakfast which is served all day long. Try the homemade biscuits and gravy, pancakes, or the grits. They have bacon, ham, and sausage or even hot/cold cereals. My favorite is the hash brown casserole, just delicious. I always try something different but must have the casserole and homemade apple butter. My husband loves the french toast with melted butter and warm maple syrup. They always have a special that is a great value and uses what is in season.
They also have a lunch and dinner menu. They have chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, chicken fried steak, homemade soups, sandwiches, and salads. So much to choose from, you will have to visit more than once.
The wait staff is pleasant, quick and efficient. Your coffee cup is never empty or cold and you don't sit for long while they prepare your meal. The restaurant is so popular there is usually a wait of 5 minutes, but usually no longer than 10 minutes.
After your meal, or while you wait for a table, wander around the old time store. You will find clothes, housewares, old time candy, and toys for the kids. And don't forget to sit on the rocking chairs that line the front porch of the restaurant.
We love to eat there anytime we are in town and take family whenever we can.
