Some reviews slam the Blue Agave for lousy service. But that's not the case with me.
Perhaps other guests are just in too much of a hurry. That's a mistake at some restaurants, particularly those that pride themselves in what they serve.
We ALWAYS have a great meal, and GREAT (!!!!!) Tequila at the Blue Agave.
Particularly the Tequila part.
Blue Agave is the only restaurant (I've found) that serves this many different bottlings of tequila—there must be 100!
Before you eat, and while you eat, and after you eat . . . and you don't even need to eat!
The Blue Agave has a SAMPLER menu for Tequila! Choose from different "flights" of tequila, grouped by their taste and character.
You can get three ½-ounce shots of different bottlings, like:
"Aquascalientes" with El Jamador Blanco, Herradura Silver, and Herradura Blanco for about $6
"Colima" with Milagro Reposado, Herradura Reposado, and Sauza Hornitos for about $7
"Guanajuato" with Reserva 1800 Anejo, Sauza Tres Generaciones, and Espolon Anejo for about $9.
And, the best of the best . . .
"Michoacan" with Sol Dios Anejo, El Tesoro Paradiso, and Don Julio 1942 for about $18.
That is, unless you want to try a single shot of el Estado de Mexico for $35!
But as good as that is, and this is coming from folks who visit Mexico FREQUENTLY, you really should try the FOOD menu.
APPETIZERS
- The Tortilla Soup (Sopa De Tortilla) is authentic and very tasty!
- The Cream of Corn Soup (Sopa de Elote) is my personal favorite, flavored with poblanos.
ENTRES
- Have you even tasted corn fungus? Yucky you say? Then you haven't tasted Enchiladas en salsa de Huitlacoche! Deee-licios
- A wonderful dark mole in their Enchiladas de Mole Poblano
- Arrachera (a favorite from our second home in Guadalajara), with marinated Skirt Steak.
- Plaintain encrusted Chilean Sea Bass (a house specialty)
DESSERTS
- OK—it's not really desert, but you haven't LIVED until you've taster the Cafe con Leche served at the Blue Agave. Wonderful dark coffee, flavored with sweetened, condensed milk. And I've tried it at home and can never get the proportions right. But at the Blue Agave, it's fabulous.
Whatever you try, TAKE YOUR TIME. It's worth it. Blue Agave is like no other restaurant we've ever been to, outside of Mexico.
