Description: One restaurant you really have got to try if you are in Chennai is Sparky's Diner. I ate there quite a few times when I was staying in Madras. It's close to the Egmore area, not near Fisherman's Fare, and across the street from World University Services.
I visited Sparky's often during my time in Madras as I enjoy Western cuisine. With Cajun, Continental, Italian and Mexican dishes all available you can't go wrong!
Thom Petty, an American guy who runs the place seems to be quite an excellent chef who's Western culinary skills probably cannot be matched, at least not in this hemisphere. Thom also is quite welcoming and enjoys meeting and chatting with his customers during the lunch and dinner hours. That is the concept of a diner apparently - the chef interacting with the public.
Sparky's seems to be quite a popular place. The atmosphere there is quite unique with all sorts of interesting wall decorations brought in from the USA and some nostalgic western/USA music in the background.
My favorite dishes there were the chicken lasagna, chicken marsala, and the classic burrito, and there are plenty of other things to choose from. Prices are quite reasonable. (I was recently at a restaurant in Delhi and was shocked how expensive menu items were compared to Sparky's.)
Bottomless lemonade was my drink of choice, and there is also bottomless iced tea and large or small glasses of soft drinks. And, it is often irresistible to finish the meal with a chocolate brownie sundae. There is plenty of seating, so rarely is that a problem. Groups seem to enjoy coming for birthday parties, etc... this place is definitely worth a visit.
