Too Good to be True
OK set aside your ideas of smashed beans and rice Mexican dining. If you come here looking to order combo 1-10 you will be very disappointed.
If you are adventurous and come looking for one of the most creative Mexican restaurants anywhere, you will be very satisfied.
The guacamole is made at your table, the menu will be creative and seasonal.
Everything is fresh.
The setting is casual and friendly, but the tables are limited. Be prepared for a wait. You will be well rewarded.

This is not your usual Mexican food. The guacamole has pomegranate seeds, and the salad has dried cranberries. This is not to say that the food is not good—it's just not what you might typically expect of Mexican food.
Unlike most Mexican restaurants, Barrio Cafe gives you bread with butter (no chips and salsa here). We ordered the guacamole, which was very good. Although, I can't say that I particularly enjoyed the chips. They seemed rather thick and hard.
I had the cochinta pibil tacos. It was flavorful and delicious. Although, somewhat heavy for a hot day. But still good. My friends ordered enchiladas. I'm not a huge fan of mole, but I think it was good.
For dessert, we had the churros, stuffed with caramel and carjeta, and a side of ice cream. It is their signature dessert—and for good reason. Yummy.
So, if you're interested in trying something different in Mexican cuisine, this is a great place to go.
