After an around 5km stroll through San Ángel and on to Coyoacán, we were ready for coffee. Knowing that Coyoacán on a Sunday can be very crowded, we decided to stop at Moheli Cafetería y Delicatessen, just at the outskirts of the busy heart of Coyoacán. A few street-side tables were still available but all were in the sun so we decided to check indoors. We spotted an empty table on the second level and headed up the very narrow, green iron spiral staircase.Arriving at the top, we noticed that the second level is only a half-floor with a clear view to the lower level. Here were only four tables and I wondered if this was a good idea or whether service was going to be a problem. I worried unnecessarily—a server followed us up and we had menus even before we could make ourselves comfortable.Unfortunately, we were only having a cappuccino (MXN26) and a coffee (MXN16) as the menu seemed surprisingly varied with low prices. On offer was a selection of typical Mexican food but also a wide range of more international dishes ranging from Frankfurters to pastas, various salads to sandwiches. The breakfast selection is extensive. Judged by the food the tables below us were receiving, portions are large.Rather disappointingly, the second level did not have much of a view, as the windows are not high enough. We could perfectly look down on three tables on the lower floor but not much else. Of the passersby, we could get just a glimpse. Furthermore, natural science determines warm air moved upwards and here you sit close to the half barrel vaulted roof. I suspect on a warm, sunny day this level may well become uncomfortably hot. This morning was cloudy and with the sun only breaking through the clouds after noon, it was still fine. Our coffee arrived fast and was good. I thought the cappuccino could have been somewhat stronger, especially as it was a double but it tastes fine and without any bitter after taste. While enjoying our coffees, I noticed that at every upper level table, a small bell was attached to the balcony railings. These clearly help to ensure service when you want it. I needed only a light tinkle of said bell and a wave of the wallet to promptly receive the bill.On a next visit to Coyoacán, I would happily try a full lunch or breakfast here.Moheli Cafetería y Delicatessen
