Houston, Texas, has a wide variety of Mexican food, and for a weary hungry traveler it may be hard to find just the perfect one that will truly reflect good Tex-Mex food. Within Houston your options are endless, but I have found that some of the best Mexican food is actually outside the city limits, if you take a short trip north and visit Spring, Texas, you can not only spend an afternoon antiquing and visiting Old Town Spring but you can also stop by Mario’s Mexican Food Restaurant, and dine on some of what I consider the best Mexican food around. Mario’s is a locally owned restaurant that started out in a small building in a strip center on Rayford Road, when his clientele grew so did his business, with him opening another restaurant, also on Rayford Road.
At any time of day you can expect to get excellent food at a great price. I have never walked away from Mario’s with being totally satisfied; they have large portions and high quality of food. You can choose from Entrees like fajitas, rellenos, enchiladas, and tilapia, the menu is pretty varied and has selections for even the pickiest eater. They even have hamburgers! Menu selections usually run in the range of $5.50 to $10, priced very affordably and situated in an easy location Mario’s is a true TexMex treat. No need to call ahead for reservations, but they do get busy on Friday evenings. Attire is casual, so no need to get dressed up here, just make sure you show up in some comfortable stretchy pants!Mario’s is located at 610 Rayford Road, in Spring and they will be happy to get you directions, just call (281)367-9336. Also they are part of the American Airlines diner’s rewards, so you can even be rewarded for getting to try out this great little secret!
