Mahi-Mah is a Favorite of Tourists and Locals Alike

We just couldnt resist at least once on our visit to try a popular, water-front tourist and local hot spot right on the beach . Since Mahi-Mah had some good reviews and looked impressive from the Boardwalk we decided to give it a whirl. It is impressive if you are merely interested in kick-ass, expensive beach-bum type drinks, loud music, lots of singles action and mediocre food that sounds exciting but really isnt.

Our prime interest always food and service and this place came up short on both. When you walk in, the place appears HUGE and there are lots of (empty) tables everywhere...you are still given a beeper and told there is a 15-30 minute wait.

Okay-lets head to the bar...One Dirty Martini and Vodka Tonic later our table was called and we were seated in an area that appeared to have a lot of empty tables. Our server introduced himself, brought us menus and wine list and took our orders for apps; She-Crab Soup- (a regional favorite that every restaurant serves a version of ) and Fried Green Tomatoes. We decided for our entrees to go with Crab Cake Sandwich(Glenn) and Mahi-Mahi (when in Rome) grilled for me. Hubby also ordered a Calamari Salad that we thought we could split.

He declared the She-Crab soup only medium in quality (compared to other places we had sampled) in both taste and amount of crab involved. My Fried Green Tomatoes were cold and tough and the sauce they came with was boring. Looked nice but the dish had no pizzaz.

Entrees arrived and waiter arrived with a dish that certainly was not Calamari Salad...he whisked it away, confessing he had forgotten the salad.
We were halfway through our entrees (Crab sandwich was decent- Mahi Mahi was probably fresh but served plain and flavorless).

When it did arrive it was evident that the calamari in the salad was DEFINITELY not fresh...I could actually taste the freezer burn and the flesh was rubbery and tasteless. We were both disappointed. The table behind us with 6 very drunk adults and 2 whiny children who kept bumpinng my chair did not help our impression.

Dessert offerings were uninteresting but our server mentioned a Red Velvet Cake that was being sold for "charity". I decided to take a piece home to have with my coffee the next day. The cake was okay but the cream cheese frosting was so ridiculously sweet and cloying that I had to scrape it all off. I would have been better off just making a donation!

All-in-all I would say Mahi-Mah is an enticing place if you are looking for a date, have a date or want take a family out on the town but it is not a serious food emporium. A lot of glitz but very little substance.

I'd say the price range of this restaurant was more like 25-35$. That was not a range to choose from so I picked 20-30. This was the most delicious Surf and Turf I have ever had! They had all sorts of sushi and seafood dishes. I tried a bunch of different pieces. I don't remember which ones, but they were all delicious. The prime rib was melt-in-your-mouth and very tasty. I had giant stuffed shrimp. I ate every delicious morsel on my plate. My whole family shared their meals so I got to taste everything. There was not a single unhappy person at our table. The service was pretty good. I was impressed especially since our party was so big. The bill came to be $438 big ones for eight adults and seven kids. I guess that's not too bad. We got a 10% off coupon from some guy on the street. He looked like he worked for the restaurant. I forgot to use the coupon, but maybe you won't forget to use if you get your hands on one!

My daughter and I went to Mahi Mah's breakfast buffet. It is great. Good homestyle food. All of the basics were available. The service is beach-like but the price was very well worth it. $6.95/person for all-you-can-eat.
