An old taverna (opened in 1907), this one stood right next to the famous Opera Theatre La Fenice (the Phoenix if I am not wrong - prophetically named in this case) and it still is one of the best places for fine and romantic dining in Venice. Going with a tour group might not be the most romantic type of trip, but that was not to the detriment of the dining experience in question.
Best dishes:
- risotto (a typical Venetian rise product)con scampi e arugula
- tagliatelle with cream sauce and exotic mushrooms
- John Dory fillets with butter and lemon turbot roasted with potatoes and tomato sauce
- scampi with tomatoes and rice
- carpaccio alla Fenice
A bit more expensive than your usual Venetian eatery, but worth it for food quality, level of service, ambience and location.
