One of the best Italian meals I've eaten in a long time. The restaurant is on the island of Torcello, about 45 minutes vaporetto ride from Venice itself. Whilst the church and campanile on the island are worth the visit alone, this restaurant was definitely the high point!
Situated on the path from the vaporetto stop to the church complex (the only path, apparently, on the island!), this looks like nothing from outside. It's just by the Devil's Bridge, a strange little brige with no railings or sides of any kind, and looks like a cheap ice cream parlour or something. However, hunger made us less picky, and we were amazed when we were summoned through the main building and out into the gardens at the back. Long, beautiful lawns greeted us, dotted with little tables laid out with linen table cloths and umbrellas in case of too much sun (in October! a shock to the system for us poor Brits).
The menu was fab, and we both decided to go for the veal. Mine arrived in a beautiful lemon sauce, whilst my partner went for the white wine sauce. Both were out of this world. More than anything though, the experience of relaxing in the beautiful gardens, in sight of the camponile, in the sunshine, was just superb, and the staff were more than happy for us to take as much time as we wanted. All in all, a wonderful meal and a well recommended restaurant (and if you like fish, the people on the next table went for the mixed fish starter and it looked amazing!).
