When driving from Phoenix to Las Vegas, or vice-versa, you have to pass through a little town called Wikieup, Arizona. It’s between Kingman and Wickenburg on Highway 93, and there’s not much here but a gas station, a motel, and the Wikieup Trading Post.
The trading post is a small gift shop carrying Southwest art, jewelry, and trinkets, but the real gem here is the pie. Your own personal hot apple, peach, or cherry pie, topped with vanilla ice cream, served in your own ceramic deep dish! "It don’t get no better than this," for lack of a better phrase. It doesn’t matter how full I am when I get here, I HAVE to stop and get pie. (I always use the excuse that I need to go to the bathroom.) This is the best pie in the world. And to think, you get it at some tiny, little out-of-the-way place.
As I’m sure you can imagine, this is no Ritz, but who cares? When they pump out the world's best pie, it doesn’t matter if it’s served IN the bathroom. These pies are made fresh daily and the top crust is sweet and crunchy! It really is to die for. If we’re running behind schedule, I get it to-go, but I never pass through here without getting one. I’ve only had the apple and the peach, as I’m not a huge cherry fan, but both are wonderful!
The restaurant does serve other food besides pie, but I’ve only had breakfast, once. It was pretty decent, but the pie is the real reason we stop here. So next time you pass through, make it a point to stop and say hello. Did I mention the pie?
Oh yeah, the bathrooms are $0.25 for non-customers of the restaurant, just an FYI.
