Description: Le Caveau de L'Isle is a restaurant that we discovered while wandering along rue Saint-Louis en l'Ile on the island of Sant Louis. There is an English menu, and we found that some of the staff speaks English, though they seemed to appreciate our French! The restaurant itself appears to be tiny, but there is a large basement that has many, many extra tables.
The best deal by far is to order from one of the two prix-fixe menus, both of which are about 30€ for an appetizer, an entree, and a desert. The wine list was fairly extensive and definitely expensive, but the wine added so much to the meal!
This was the most gourmet meal we had while in Paris, though we were traveling on a college budget and this was something of a splurge. The dishes are all beautiful, and the portions are not stingy. I particularly enjoyed the Thai shrimp, though all of the dishes I saw were simply lovely.
The atmosphere is intimate and romantic, and the basement is particularly lovely. The staff is friendly, the food is excellent (some of the best I have had in the world), and the prices are fairly reasonable. A word to the wise--the bathrooms are upstairs (as opposed to the usual European downstairs bathroom) and the door slides.
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! It is very tourist friendly, but not touristy. We dined with several locals and no other tourists.
