The Red Lion

We had lunch at the Red Lion in Stockbridge. It is a beautiful old inn. The interior retains so much of its character. It is decorated with hundreds of antique pieces. It is warm and charming and interesting. The menu had an assortment of chicken, beef, pasta, and seafood dishes. Prices for lunch entrees ran from $12 to $20. Salads ran $6 to $9.

The tables were covered with white linens and fresh flowers. They had tables for groups of two to at least eight. They also had a pub with small tables. There is also a private dining room with a table to seat at least 10.

The waitress was friendly, attentive, and prompt.

Lunch was for my wife, 8-year-old daughter, and me. I had a chicken pot pie. It was topped with a philo dough crust that is taken off the top and the filling is spooned over it. The dough was flaky, fresh, and light. The chicken and vegetables were hot, fresh, and not soggy. The sauce was light. I also had a beer. My wife started with a kidney bean and vegetable soup. Her main course was an open-faced hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy over toast. The turkey was very juicy and tender. The sides were all fresh and delicious. Our daughter selected the hamburger and pickle. It was well done and moist. As we were quite full afterwards, we did not consider dessert.

The bill totaled $42. Based on the atmosphere, quality of food. and portion sizes it was a good fair price. We would not normally be inclined to spend that on lunch, but it was worth while to experience the Red Lion.
