Wildfire

I don't usually write reviews of restaurants I have visited. but last night I ate at Wildfire and I don't think I will ever forget it. I have never, EVER been so violently ill as I was after visiting Wildfire.

I had the meat skewers, which they are famous for. I found it to be very well presented, and it all sounded lovely. Some of the flavours where a little overpowering.

But it was after I ate that the experience begun. At approximately 2am, several hours after dining at Wildfire, I awoke with a pain in my stomach I would liken to actually eating fire. I made a mad dash to the toilet to vomit like I have never vomited before. After the first 10- to 15-minute spell, I had bought up most of the semi-digested chunks of meat and felt somewhat "better" than I had 15 minutes earlier. However, I was sweating like I had run a marathon, even though I was as cold as ice. My eyes were watering from vomiting so hard (another first for me), and I felt dizzy.

After cleaning up I managed to drag myself back to bed, where I laid trembling for about 10 minutes before feeling another attack and running back to the toilet for round two.

This time I was throwing up with such velocity that the force of my vomit made some of the toilet water splash back onto my face. Thankfully this blast only lasted about 10 minutes and I was able to lay on the bathroom floor to get some much-deserved shut eye.

I awoke the next morning feeling very drained and like someone had been kicking me in the stomach all night.

I decided to report this violent act to the management at Wildfire, and was told they would investigate the matter and that I should expect a follow up call sometime later in the day. The call never came, and I decided to write this no holds barred—but certainly honest—review of my experience at Wildfire.

I must say the atmosphere and the wait staff are excellent, the food is a little over-rated and greatly over priced, however nothing can excuse the follow-up service offered by management when I reported my experience to them.

Eat your own discretion. You have been warned.

When I was back in Sydney recently, Wildfire was the restaurant hit at the time. Only opened in mid 2002, it has already been voted 'the best new Sydney Restaurant' in Vanity Fair and 'best wine list of the year'.

Set at the top end of Circular Quay, it commands majestic views of the city skyline, the Opera House, and the harbor looking towards the Pacific Ocean.

The ambience of the restuarant is serene, with light music adding to the dining experience. The wine selection has to be seen to be believed - a magnificent two story full-wall arrangement, with a wonderful, though not too wide, variety to choose from.

We found the service initially not up to scratch, but when we gently pointed this out to the appropriate staff, there were no problems, and indeed the staff were very helpful.

Wildfire is an incredible dining experience!
