Snake River Grille

The Snake River Grille had stellar food.

My expectations were somewhat low for the caprese pizza appetizer. I think my exact words were: "Pizza appetizer, how original!" Boy, was I wrong. The explosion of flavors from the combination of a few simple ingredients was both a surprise and a delight. Fresh tomatoes, sweet basil, fresh mozza, and a few spices were all that topped the thin, wood-fired crust, but I have been having dreams about the pizza ever since then.

The Caesar salad was as flavorful as you would expect a made-from-scratch Caesar dressing to be. Let me put it this way - if you've ever had a Caesar salad anywhere that the dressing is premixed, you have not had a real Caesar salad. This salad was in a class of its own, and my pizza dreams are usually followed by salad dreams.

I don't even want to attempt to describe the steak I had for my main course. I'll just say it was the most tender, most flavorful, juiciest steak I've ever eaten - grilled to perfection, a hint of smokiness, a crisp seared outside protecting the rest of the succulent meat.

About the only thing I did not like about the Snake River Grille was that it was quite loud. My wife and I had a hard time conversing due to the hustle and noise.

Ask for the house drink when you go.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Our favorite place by far - nicest meal, best service, and the desert... their chocolate souffle has been written up in many fine dining mags - and it deserves the reputation. We paid more at other places - but this was easily the best. Go and enjoy.

The Snake River Grill was the culinary highlight of the trip, in fact we ate there twice. It features what I'd call funky or contemporary American and local cuisine. Local trout, venison, or buffalo with a contemporary/sophisticated presentation are great. You can also get a great steak or other grilled specialties. With Jackson Hole becoming such a celebrity hangout, you may well see a movie star at the snake river grill.
