Osbornes was recommended to us by our host, Sam, at the Escape Boutique B&B, and thank goodness he did! This place is a real asset to Llandudno, and once you've been, you'll wonder why you haven't got an Osbornes where you live.

The decor is elegant and luxurious. On arrival, drinks are served in the cosy lounge area, surrounded by antiques, oil paintings, and comfy sofas. The dining area is unlike anything I had ever seen before: a magnificent chandelier dominates the centre of the room, the black-and-white decor actually works, and there are clean and beautifully presented tables. All this might have been imposing if it weren't for the wonderfully friendly staff.

The menu is varied. Starters include staples like duck liver and orange pate, soup, or more unusual choices, like crayfish tails and a tomato horseradish mayonnaise. For the main course, there are a wide selection of fish dishes, steak grills, and locally sourced lamb and other meat dishes, plus a vegetarian option. As for desert, well, let's just say that Osbornes do the best bread and butter pudding I've ever tasted.

The standard of the food was excellent, with everything cooked to perfection. Although there was only one vegetarian option on the menu, it was an excellent option (at the time this was roasted peppers stuffed with mushroom risotto, and it was lovely). We spent most of the time talking about how good this, that, or the other tasted, looked, or smelled. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient, and we had a lovely time.

The prices are so sensible, you do wonder what the catch is, given the quality of the decor and the service. Truth is, there isn't a catch. It's just one of those fabulous places to go that don't turn up very often. If you visit Llandudno, you definitely need to visit Osbornes, but do remember to book: as one of the hottest places to eat in town, everyone else will want to be there too.
