Wow! If you have not been to Suzuya you have not tried true beef. My dad and I ordered a fry-it-yourself selection of beef and veggies, whereas mum ordered a mountain vegetable hotpot. Both were really delicious but the Hida Beef really tickled my fancy. Hida Beef is the vegemite of Takayama. It tastes great and it melts in your mouth! I could almost eat it raw, and it tasted even better grilled on hot coals. Because this tasted so good I ordered another plate. The owners of this restaurant are SO nice, they love kids and gave me a bag of Japanese lollies to take home. The lollies were nice but not for anyone who likes gourmet almond-rolled phlegm. Overall my dining experience was one to remember! Also, the green tea ice cream is the best in Japan! Instead of being bitter like crappy Australian green tea, it's creamy and delicious!
