We also had two memorable dinners in Vela Luka. The first was at a little place on the harbour that was run by a frantic husband and wife team who were stretched to the limit by five tables of people, but still managed to deliver decent food, including some delicious grilled squid. The husband dripped with sweat throughout the whole meal and managed to look like he was delivering a baby, not dinner and drinks.
The second place we went to was the Konoba Lucia, slightly uphill from town, where they coped with numbers a lot better and were packed to capacity even on a Tuesday night. The food there was excellent and our waiter was helpful and entertaining. At the end of the meal, he presented us with a complimentary bottle of grappa (alcoholic jet fuel) and joined us in a drink, earning himself a massive tip. My final culinary note for Vela Luka is that the best ice cream can be found in the pekarstvi (bakery) just near the main square. Oh, and be warned that if you order pizzas from the pub just behind the fuel wharf, the big pizzas are really big.
