Chic Upstairs Bar with Amazing View

We heard about Pueblo Viejo because there was live Andean music, but when we got in (29/32 year old professionals), the hostess pressured us to go upstairs to the bar and check out the menu, which is more Spanish tapas vs. traditional Mexican.

The bar is very nice, but we secured a table on the patio where we got an amazing view of the city. The service was tremendous! It was a chilly evening, so the waiters moved the heaters closer to our table, and brought each of us a red blanket to wrap around our shoulders. The food was very good - but the portions are very large (definitely NOT tapas size). We ordered 4 plates for 2 people, and it was definitely a lot for dinner. We each had 2 drinks (2 beers and 2 vodkas) and bill came up to about $40 US, which we thought was a pretty good deal for a nice meal out.

As we were leaving (around 10pm), it seemed like the scene was getting more lively. Many young and beautiful travelers and locals were coming up and greeting each other. We regretted not staying for another drink!

Another one of San Miguel's wonderful restaurants with an open roof. They have a roof that basically roles on when needed, but the weather in San Miguel rarely requires it.

This is THE place for breakfast! Many people say the Eggs Benedict is the best they've ever had, but my personal favorite is the blueberry pancakes. Trust me, you will never be satisfied with a lesser pancake! They're rich, almost more like a desert, and rolled in corn flakes, then topped with crema. (Yes, I said corn flakes. Sounds weird, but it's incredible.) The omelettes are great, the coffee is superb, the fresh baked bread heavenly. Ok, so I've never had anything there that wasn't wonderful... but the blueberry pancakes are what I still dream about.

The service is A++, the atmosphere is different (look at the clothes on the "clothesline" on the wall, see if you can pick out which ones are real & which ones are painted.) My one problem with them is that the Pueblo is so far from where I am now.
