Stella Pastry on Columbus Avenue has been a firm fixture in the North Beach area for quite some years. If you happen to be anywhere in the vicinity of this shop, do stop by and nibble on one of their offerings. You will not regret it. This tiny place serves some of the best Italian pastries, biscotti, cakes, and of course, coffee. They are best known for "sacripantina," which is their house speciality. This is a multi-layered sponge cake that consists of delicious zabalonge, cream, and rum. Each slice costs about $4, and you get a generous portion that swiftly disappears the minute you sink your teeth into this luscious dessert. They offer a wide array of Italian cookies and other pastries and cakes like tiramisu, napolean, cannoli, etc. Additionally, they offer a good selection of beverages that includes some excellent coffee.
