Food in Paris is very expensive, and one way to save some pennies is to grab snacks from the street vendors. Although this may sound less than desirable, the best food I had in Paris was a Nutella-filled crepe from a vendor near Centre Pompidou. In addition to being cheap, this approach to dining gives you more time to see the attractions, rather than spending hours indoors, eating in the typical French fashion.

This was our favourite crepe stand. The men who make the crepes don't smile but they're really careful how they make your crepe - fresh from batter not reheated crepes - and they put lots of good stuff in it. I loved the jambon fromage. My mom and aunt loved the chocolat but they never let me eat chocolate - bad for dogs - but my dad always let me try his buerre sucre.

You must try the French crepes. We actually tried our first authentic French crepe in Hannover, at a street stand next to the French Pavillion. It was freshly made by a French woman, who spread the batter on a crepe pan. When the crepe was almost done, she put Nutella (Italian chocolate and hazelnut spread-it is different than the Nutella you find in the US, which tends to be more paste-like in texture) and banana slices on and folded it in four. It was so good. The crepe was soft and slightly crusty on the edge, with the Nutella melted and warm slightly caramelized bananas inside. Perfect combination. Of course, the quality of crepes in Paris differs but overall are very good. We had one crepe with far too much Nutella inside, but that was the only negative. You can find crepe stands all over Paris. The ones next to tourist destinations are slightly more expensive, but overall, a great bargain and a fast lunch or snack if you are on the run. I also like it with ham and cheese, or just sugar or with jam. As with the waffles in Belgium, these crepes taste nothing like anything in the US. I'm already getting hungry just writing about them!
