I recently attended a dinner and flamenco show at el Corral de la Moreria. Prior to that evening, I had no idea what to expect. Once I arrived, it seemed as though I were walking straight into the past. The tablao was small and cozy, which meant I could clearly see the stage no matter where I sat, and styled in the arab influence that is also a part of flamenco. Once we sat down, my friend and I looked over the extensive menu. Most of the food offered was traditional Spanish food. I decided to go for the roasted vegetables, leg of lamb and sorbet. I was not disappointed! It was by far the best food I have tasted during my past month in Spain. Every bite was savory and full of flavor. However, that was not the best part of the night. Once my sorbet was served, the room became dark and the guitar started. It was soon followed by the singers and flamenco dancers. This was by far the best part of the night! It was impossible not to feel the passion and energy they put into the music and dance. The entire audience sat enraptured for the entire hour and a half show. It was something everyone should experience!
Best Flamenco in Madrid
The first time I dined at the Corral de la Morería I had no idea what to expect. I knew I was in for a treat because the atmosphere of the restaurant was calm, romantic, and the air was full of excitement. Everyone was waiting for the show to start and in the meantime, a delicious dinner was being served. Because I went with my study abroad group as a welcome to Madrid, my program director had pre-ordered some typical Spanish food for us to try. We had jamón, cheese, and tortilla española as our appetizers and paella as our main course. We accompanied dinner with some of the tastiest sangría I have ever had. Once the lights dimmed and the show started, the restaurant stayed quiet and attentive to the dancers, singers, and guitarists. It was one of the most amazing dance experiences I´ve had. I´d never seen flamenco live before this and I´m so glad I saw it for the first time at the Corral. Every dancer had a solo at some point and each one of them had their own style. I think what really made the night was the whole atmosphere of the restaurant, from the decorations, to the lights, to the staff. My favorite had to be the maitre´d who personally sat us at our table and took our orders. And when I thought the magical night had ended, I walked outside of the Corral to see a breathtaking nighttime view of the Catedral de la Almudena from across the bridge. The Corral de la Morería is definitely not a place to miss when you are travelling to Madrid.

While enjoying homemade sangria and courses and courses of local specialities, one cannot help but get caught up in the Flamenco dancing. Of course, you only watch the dancers, but all performances are excellent and you cannot believe how they dance and dance and dance. The food is very tasty and a lot or almost too much. If you don't try this Flamenco house, try another because you will not want to miss this experience while in Madrid. You will be dancing all night.
