Green Garden Restaurant is no more in Walnut Creek. That's really a shame. This has been the best all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet for such a reasonable price to date. They used to have this buffet lunch and dinner, every day. The last time I was there was 1996 when they scaled back the buffet just to weekday lunch.
I had myself scheduled to be in Walnut Creek so that I could go for their wonderful buffet lunch. I was applying for a new position with my company and was being tested. Pass or fail, I was going to have either a celebration lunch or a consolation lunch. As it turned out I passed the test, so it was a celebration lunch.
They did a marvelous job with the food. It was big, the food was fresh and tasty, lots of people coming in, the food turned over quickly. Sushi and desserts were also available. Sometimes they have crab. Their business was so good and crowded that they expanded their floor space.
They had fish tanks with open irrigation with water from the top tank flowing over the front onto another tank below, and is repeated with a third tank; water is filtered and pumped back into the top tank. It was a nice pleasing effect, both visually seeing the water falling and audibly hearing the sound of falling water.
The last time I went back there in 2002, I saw a financial institution preparing to open there. If anyone knows what happened to the people who ran the restaurant, please send me a message. Did they open another buffet under a different name? My regret is that I didn't go to eat the buffet lunches more often when it was there.
