Il Panino Giusto

My trusty Let's Go guide directed us to Il Panino Giusto, which supposedly offered the best gourmet (but inexpensive) sandwiches in Milan. We decided to check it out and eventually found it on a small street about a block from Porta Venezia. The menu (printed in English as well as Italian, yippee!) was full of tasty sandwiches, salads, and hot/cold plates, mostly around 5 to 6 euros each. Plenty of salami and pastrami selections on traditional thick Italian breads. We chose to eat outside and enjoy the good weather, but there was also plenty of indoor seating available. I can't say our server was particularly friendly and certainly not as prompt as we might have hoped (too much service-oriented American restaurant experience under our belts), but the sandwiches were great. Since it was already mid-afternoon, we didn't want to fill up too much so we could enjoy a hearty dinner, so the sandwiches were a perfect mini-meal. If you're particularly hungry, order an appetizer or a dessert as well. Apparently Il Panino Giusto is a chain, so look for their restaurant/cafes around the city. It was just what we were looking for and at a great price, but I'd suggest searching for something a bit more original if you're really after a heartier Italian meal that other tourists might not get.
