Description: It's true that Melbourne's foodie culture is made for tapas-style dining. The multi-dish grazing method endorses sharing and encourages extra helpings. Movida's authentic tapas represents various regions of Spain but often utilises fine local produce like south Australian olives marinated in orange and thyme. The only problem is that the portions are tiny and for the price of a dish you expect more for your money, as it's not cheap here. The food is certainly good, like the white almond gazpacho and marinated lamb cutlets. We ordered quite an array of dishes but still left feeling hungry, due to the small portions and it being too expensive to order more. Our bill, which included six dishes and only two drinks, came to over $100 AUD--that's 40 pounds and just under $80 US, and considering you hardly get anything for your money, it's very expensive. Main courses, by the way, appear only on the specials board, but apparently, so I am told, always include a version of paella.
Movida is also the place to rediscover sherry and sample Spanish wines. They do Sangria by the glass, and it's bloody good. If you're on a budget, eat perhaps elsewhere and come here for a few drinks, which certainly quite a few people were doing. If you have cash to spend, the food is good, but be sure to order lots of dishes, as the portions are really small.
