Then the Camy Shanghai Dumpling Restaurant is the place to be! It's open for lunch and dinner, and you get really, really good dumplings.
It's not a high-class establishment. You serve yourself tea (which is free), and you sit at old tables with old chairs in a slightly run-down-looking building. But you're there for the food!
It's cheap (dishes of dumplings are about AUD$4), and a great place to eat with a bunch of friends. It's usually filled, too.
The trick is finding the place. Go into Chinatown (Lt Bourke St) from Swanston St, and on the left you'll pass a Tattersalls venue. Tattersalls Lane is just after it. Don't mind going up the alleyway, there are restaurants on both sides. It's on the left, after the Camy Shanghai Noodle Restaurant!
Great Chinese food - especially the dumplings! - and cheap on the pocket.
