Although Ljubjana, and the rest of Slovenia for that matter, is quickly modernizing, most people still do their shopping in the central market. As far as I'm concerned, spending an hour or so there, walking around, is the best way to get a peek into the locals' lives. The main market selling fruits, vegetables, and kitchen wares is located near the center of town, just across the Dragon Bridge. There is also a fish market housed in a building overlooking the river, offering very fresh fish for cheap prices. A whole range of food can be had in this area from the ubiquitous burek wonderful proscioto sandwiches, and the freshest fruit in the country.
