Shang Hai

Shang Hai is a block away from Strawberry Square, the main downtown mall in the center of town and it's a decent place to get a fast Chinese meal. The restaurant is older and quiet with typical vinyl banquettes. It's spacious, but the spaciousness has the feeling of rattling emptiness of a Hopper painting.

Anyway, that's a bit poetic for a typical Chinese joint! There are lunch specials here for under $6, which include entree, rice (white or fried), and an egg roll. I had General Tso's chicken, which was freshly prepared with fresh ingredients, all for $5.60. There’s no reason to make a special trip, but if you need a fast cheap meal in the center of town that has some vegetables in it, there you go.
