Tasos

There are many snack bars and tavernas in Kontogyalos, and frankly, there are no great differences between them. The menus and prices are similar, and they all have the same plastic white chairs and flimsy tables with paper tablecloths. Tasos stands out from the rest, as the snacks are homemade (at least most of them), and the service is a touch more friendly (by the proprietor and his wife-both in their early sixties). The prices are no different than the rest of the outlets in Kontogyalos, and all of them are a bit more pricey than other eateries of similar standard elsewhere on the island. A meal consisting of a medium pizza, two portions of gavros marinatos (local white bait fish marinated), one portion of saganaki (fried white cheese), one Greek salad, three cokes, and three coffees set us back 37 euros (or $44USD-with yesterday's exchange rate).
