Sublime is THE place to get a western meal in Changzhou (your other options are KFC, McDonald's and various Chinese interpretations of western food). Therefore, you are likely to see a lot of other foreign patrons when you visit here. This can be surprising, because I for one did not realize how many foreigners there were in Changzhou. Last time I was there, there was middle-aged white couple at one table and a group of eight French 20-somethings at another (which means there are at least 10 more westerners in this city than the 25 or so that I personally know). It seems a bit odd being that you rarely just "run into" other westerners in Changzhou (and I regularly encounter locals who act as though they have never seen a white person before).

Sublime claims to be "foreign owned and operated". (I have no idea who the foreigner who owns and operates the place is or where s/he is from). This really isn't surprising though. You can usually tell the westerner-run restaurants from the Chinese owned and operated "western" restaurants.

The first thing that will strike you about this place is the decor, which looks western without trying to look western. It actually looks like how a westerner would decorate it. It's even trendy. The downstairs area, where the restaurant is, is very industrial looking with high ceilings, subdued lighting and IKEA-looking furniture. Upstairs is an inviting bar/coffee bar with large, comfortable, plush chairs and coffee tables.

The food ranges from adequate to excellent. The large selection of pizzas, in particular, are outstanding. The coffee and desserts are also very good. Other food items, such as sandwiches and salads are okay but nothing special.

You should expect to spend between five and ten U.S. dollars, which is a very expensive meal in China. You can easily have an elegant Chinese meal in one of the nicest restaurants in town for half of what you'll pay for a pizza and a milkshake here.

Of course, you really can't be too picky when you are looking for western food in a minor Chinese city not too often visited by foreigners, but Sublime pizzas are surprisingly good and anything on the menu is a refreshing change when you have had nothing but Chinese food for a long time and long for something different.
