Cabo San Lucas Dining Memories

Some places we highly recommend: El Pescador, on the street that you find the Rose, is a little local place where they speak no English, but the marlin quesadillas are amazing! El Shrimp Bucket is always good (the Rockefeller Fish is so good ... mahi-mahi with Chihuahua cheese and steamed vegetables), and the location is great! The new place, Senor Sweets, has these amazing desserts. The tiramisu is not really sweet, but one of the best pieces of tiramisu I've ever had ... the chocolate lava cake is enough to make you drool!

Restaurants In General

Restaurants in general do not offer a lot for the vegetarian in Cabo San Lucas. The Office and a few other choices had items that were available for my partner, who is vegetarian. He does include eggs and dairy products. The quality of food was mediocre at best, and the prices seemed a bit too much for Mexican cuisine. If you're a seafood lover or general surf-and-turf lover, there are many choices. It seemed odd to us that the selection of restaurant food spans the entire spectrum, including Chinese, Italian, etc. Cabo San Lucas has become more than just a Mexican vacation destination. It seems to be trying to appeal to the world traveler, who might be looking for a taste of home. This seems odd, seeing as the whole purpose of going to Mexico is to enjoy the local flavor and cuisine of Mexico. I've been told that other cities in Mexico are not so Americanized, and for a more true local flavor, try a trip to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo or Oaxaca (friends of ours go all the time).

Here is a list of my favorite restaurants in CABO:

1. Romeo y Julieta. Located across from the Plaza Las Glorias at the south of town. The atmosphere is a combo of Italy and Mexico. Great Italian food, romantic atmosphere, reasonable prices and a great end to dinner - flaming coffee! The wait staff is extremely attentive.

2. The Office - This is the fun restaurant located on the main beach, Medano beach. Go on a Thursday night for they have a great Mexican party. The lines start early to get a prime seat on the beach (shoes optional). So get there at about 5 p.m. and stake out your spot. The most romantic atmosphere, having your feet in the sand, the surf behind you and watching the sun set on the sea. As the party starts to roll, watch out for the waiter that looks like a blues brother that carries a whistle and a bottle of tequila. Ouch!

3. Ediths - More subdued and probably some of the best views to be had with a great dinner in Cabo. Outside dining (who needs a roof when it only rains 5 days out of the year anyway?) that will make anyone fall in love! This is the place for that special dinner in Cabo.

4. Solomon's Fish Bar - Located in front of the Plaza Las Glorias next to the boat ramp that takes you out to Lover's Beach, this is the place we would stop at everyday for great fish tacos, either grilled or fried, for $1 each. Heap on all the toppings you want from the bar. Sit around and watch the boats and fish come in from the ocean or watch the tourists walk by on the boardwalk. How much fresh quacamole can you heap on one taco anyway?
