La Litote

I separated the dining on the La Litote because it is such an important part of the trip. The food is excellent and always prepared by a classically trained chef. Oddly, though, few of the chefs or crew members are French; most are British for the simple reason the French do not like to work on weekends. Each evening the barman presents several types of cheese with some history of each, and wine from the district. This is followed by dinner, and it is always beautifully presented and is always superb. Breakfast is the usual continental style, sometimes with a North American touch, and lunches vary from cold cuts even to American cheeseburgers. Wine is served with lunch. Of course. In fact, there are no bar bills on La Litote, or the other barges from the Continental Waterways fleet.
