Le Petit Coin Latin

When my sister and I first arrived to Quebec City, we were starving from the 3 hour road trip from Montreal and went into the first bistro we could find. Thankfully, that bistro happened to be "Le Petit Coin Latin"! It was a wonderful surprise and felt like fate has decided to join our empty stomachs with great food.
The restaurant contains a big terrace in the back, and the atmosphere is wonderful both outside and inside, in the afternoon and the evening (we went back the next day for dinner). If you like little bistros with pleasant servers, home like interior design, and big portions of great food, then "Le Petit Coin Latin" is the place for you!
The both times that we were there, we ordered salads. The menu has a big choice of everything (salads, croque-monsieurs, soups, sandwiches, raclettes..etc.) and the salads come in two sizes. The portions are big, so even a small sized salads satisfyingly filled our starving stomach. The salad that I ordered completely covered the plate with a little hill of lettuce, artichoke hearts, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis and ham, and was served with bread and butter.
The restaurant also serves its own alcohol, so do not buy your own wine. When we first stumbled on it, we bought two glasses of white wine which went very well with our meals. In the evening we ordered two glasses of red porto to go with our appetizers, it was also very good (though a little expensive).
The only criticism I have of the restaurant is their preparation of escargots. In the evening we ordered appetizers: my sister had a very good onion soup, but I ended up with tasteless plate of cooked snails in boiling oil. No matter how much salt or pepper I added, my escargots refused to gain taste. If you avoid “les escargots”, however, you’re definitely in for a treat!

I recommend going to this bistro for breakfast. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, with light music in the background; the big windows are open, letting in the warm breeze; and there are French magazines on the table. Okay, food! If you have never had raclette, here is the place to try it! A raclette is similar to a small grill that is placed on the table, and then the waiter brings out a huge plater with bread, ham, cheeses, eggs, fruit, and potatoes. You place it on the grill and make your own little French sandwiches. It's delicious, especially with the variety of French cheeses. The coffee and hot chocolate are good too, but you will be have so much with the raclette that you will totally feel like a true native.
