As an expat who tends to get cranky without the daily recommended allowance of bagels in her diet, I love this place. This is bagel heaven, especially in a land that tends to shy away from the general production of bagels.
For about £5 ($8-ish), you can get a cappuccino, a bagel sandwich, hot or cold, and an ice cream for dessert.
Though bagels make up the main part of the menu (meat and cheese, Mediterranean, pizza, or just cream cheese), there are soups, salads, pastries, and brownies.
G&D also serves up Oxford's Own Ice Cream. Being new to the area, I can't be sure how much weight this carries, but my scoop of cookies and cream was divine.
After ordering at the counter, you have your choice of seats: along a bar facing the street, tables for two, or tables for four. You wouldn't necessarily recline and chill for an entire afternoon here, but it's great for a quick lunch or even a chat over coffee.
It has a quiet atmosphere and cow decor and is open from 8am till midnight, an overall indigotima pleaser!
By the way, if you're in St. Aldates, bathrooms are downstairs and around the corner. Look for the cows shouting "Loo!" and there's more seating downstairs, though I've never been in there when it's been crowded.
