Beefeaters

We ate at this restaurant twice. The first time the 16 oz New York Strip was to die for, so we returned. Since we visited Cancun in the off-season, it was very easy to get a table on both 9/4/05 and 9/8/05. The second time we visited the restaurant, we sat right on the lagoon. There was not a mosquito problem because there are a lot of bats that fly near the restaurant at night. Apparently the bats like the mangrove trees. It didn't bother me too much, but it was weird to see the bats come so close to the tables.

We were so close to the lagoon that we ended up eating right next to a LIVE crocodile named Pancho. That was exciting and scary at the same time. Pancho was about 8 feet long, and we were told he was "el mediano" or, the medium one. Apparently there's another much larger crocodile that also visits the restaurant. I'm glad he did not show up. The waiter said both Beefeaters and Lorito Joes feed the crocs, so they usually hang around.

Back to the meal: I ordered a 12-oz. strip instead of the 16-oz. the second night, which was not as succulent as the 16-oz. The cut was much leaner and had a lot less flavor. Still, the atmosphere was amazing. Also, we ordered the shrimp satay as an appetizer for two and it was awesome. The shrimp were relly fresh and the sauce was great even without dipping the shrimp into the peanut sauce. I recommend Beefeaters 100%, especially if you're staying at one of the Marriott hotels (because it is right across the street).
