Romeo's Euro Cafe

If you like Mediterranean food, Romeo’s Euro Café is the perfect place for you. Located in Old Town Gilbert’s Heritage Square, Euro Café is a small restaurant, maybe 10 tables, but it has a HUGE menu. They have at least 30 appetizers, 15 salads, and a plethora of chicken, seafood, pasta and eggplant dishes, pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, and pitas, not to mention the many desserts that are on display as you walk in the front door. YUM!

One of my favorite dishes is the gyro platter. It’s huge plate filled with gyro meat, tomatoes, red onions, pita triangles, kalamata olives, a chunk of feta cheese, and the best yogurt sauce this side of Greece. The meat is so tasty and not dry, like you sometimes find at gyro stands.

My favorite appetizer is a toss-up between the blue tomatoes or the asparagus puffs. The blue tomatoes are sliced tomatoes covered in blue cheese and baked. It’s served with a baguette and is REALLY cheesy and tangy.

The asparagus puffs are puff pastry filled with asparagus, almonds, garlic, and Swiss and ricotta cheeses, then baked and served with a side of ranch dressing. Doesn't that just SOUND good? It is... let me tell you.

Dessert is a specialty at Euro Café. The pastry chef Cynthia Selby (a.k.a. The Chocolate Goddess) is a wonder at making sweet concoctions. With dessert names like Intoxicated Love, Satin Explosion, and The Sarah Bernhardt truffle, you’re sure to find something to curb your sweet tooth. They also offer other sweets like brownies, cookies, cheesecake, and, of course, baklava.

They also have a wide range of coffee drinks and a small gift shop on the premises, as well as a small wine shop. Romeo, the owner, is always there, wandering around asking everyone how their meal is.

So, if you ever find yourself shopping in Old Town Gilbert and want to try something different, you should stop in. The food is great and Romeo is a fun guy to talk to. They also serve beer and wine.
