Whether you went for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the food was always good, but it is expensive. It is more expensive than when I was there in September 2003. For breakfast you can either have the American breakfast or the buffet. The buffet is all-you-can-eat and good. Every day the food was from a different region of Mexico. But again, it is expensive (the buffet was 155 pesos and the American was 119 pesos).

The service was not very good. Just about every meal was missing something, or they brought the wrong thing, or it took them forever to get back to you. But they were right there for their tip!

Bakal varies their menu each night. The shrimp buffet was excellent. It included various salads and shrimp grilled to order. The lobster fest, however, is an á la carte menu. I was disappointed in the lobster festival and thought it was a bit expensive.

The staff here were friendly but the food was average. It's edible but a little over-cooked and over-priced. Your kids---if typical American mac and cheese/chicken finger eaters--- will find few choices on the menu. The buffets were themed, but, again, they were over-priced and average quality.

The Bakal restaurant on the complex features a different all-you-can-eat buffet each night (i.e. Italian, seafood, Mexican, etc.). They also have a menu from which you can order such things as steaks, sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts, in both American and Mexican flavors.

The atmosphere is relaxed, with a wonderful view of the sunset of the ocean through the palm trees in the evening. The wait staff is prompt, courteous, and unobtrusive. If you want a great meal without having to leave the resort, this is an excellent choice. The restaurant is a bit pricey, though.

This is where they have the buffets. We only went to the breakfast buffets. There was plenty of fresh locally grown papaya, pineapple, and melons. The papaya juice is delicious. There are usually four juices to choose from, in addition to milk and chocolate milk. The have two sides to the buffet. They offer made-to-order omelets. The food is fair to average. There is cereal and yogurt along with the typical breakfast fare.
