Local Secrets, Big Finds 2007 Pick

  • January 17, 2008
  • Rated 5 of 5 by Local Secrets from New York, New York
Not only does Taqueria Cancun serve up what locals rave as "undeniably the best burritos in San Francisco," but it also specializes in tostadas, tacos, quesadillas, and more. "Considering that SF might just have the best Mexi-Cali burritos in the whole state, that's saying a lot." From one bite, you'll know that "the ingredients are impeccably fresh." The food's so tasty and the "carne asada is so succulent, you'll even consider eating the pieces you've accidentally dropped out of your burrito onto the floor." Expect to find motley crowds "ranging from families to faux-hawked cool kids to Mission district tattoo artists." They don’t put rice in the burritos, as policy, but that just means more meat! (There are three locations, but the one in the Mission was voted tops.)

Taqueria Cancun

The trip would not have been complete without a stop at Taqueria Cancun on 19th Street. We'd already had several beers at a bar during our last night in San Francisco, but we capped the trip with a couple of Pacificos, a chorizo taco, and the eternally satisfying house-special burrito filled with rice, beans, and carne asada.

At Taqueria Cancun, it's easy to forget your name as soon as you bite into their traditional Mexican fare.
