The Hippopotamus--Hippo, as it is known throughout Paris--is actually a chain, which seems odd in a city that has thousands of brasseries, cafes and restaurants. The Hippo is a great way to introduce first time visitors to Paris th the French dining experience without feeling too out-of-your-element. The food is fantastic, and the menu is quite large. One key point for a lot of the restaurants of Paris are the fixed menus, where an entree, main course, dessert, and drink can be ordered at a lower cost. The Hippo gives you a choice of two or three items--any combination of the above. Your selections are limited and basic, however, but this is a good thing if you are not familiar with French cuisine.
Also of note: All the Hippo's are open until 5am nightly, and the scene changes more into a bar atmosphere after 11pm. Something to keep in mind, if you dine late or find your self hungry after a long day of sight-seeing and cannot find a place to eat.
