Maharani

This informal tandoori restaurant is located on Berwick Street. It's a great place to eat a good meal after shopping for rare records and CDs at surrounding stores or roaming the colorful clothing stalls on nearby Rupert Street.

Maharani is small and might not look like much on the outside, but don't let that scare you. This tiny restaurant serves some of the best food I had while I was in London.

If you eat here on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to wait at least 30 to 45 minutes for your meal. Maharani can get crowded, but you don't need reservations, and the food is well worth the wait. The service is friendly and the waiters can make even the most world-weary traveler feel welcome.

I recommend trying their delicious curries or tasty chicken tikka. The food wasn't presented as anything special, but the taste was terrific! Wash your meal down with a cold Indian beer, which tastes great with any Indian meal. The food is relatively inexpensive for London dinning, especially for the quality and portions.

I would gladly eat at Maharani again!
