WE got the name from our guidebook and tried it. The tapas bar was very good; an excellent selection. Small marinaded fresh anchovies were excellent, so was the chorizo. We drank dry sherry (fino), but the red wine was good too. There is a good restaurant at the back; excellent and friendly service, good quality food, and plenty of local dishes (fish, game). Wine list was reasonably priced and very drinkable.

Our first night in Barcelona and we are looking for somewhere to eat at 11pm (typical for the Spanish, but we were starving!). We walked down one side of La Rambla and were bothered by the men outside of restaurants trying to get us inside to eat (they can get REALLY annoying!). We found Amaya, which was listed in our guidebook and there was no annoying man out front, so we went in. It was a lot fancier than we expected or really wanted, but we stayed anyway. The menu was quite large, but was mostly full of strange seafoods. This was our first meal in Spain and we had no idea what to order, so we went on our own knowledge. My companions ordered the pork and I ordered the boiled shrimp.

I was surprised to see that my shrimp came whole. I mean, they had heads and eyes! I am just not used to this and was turned off by the veins and goo inside of the shrimp. What I did eat of them though (the tails), tasted really good! Everyone else enjoyed their pork, although it was more under-cooked than they were used to. All of the meals were served with chips and the waiter put a bread basket on our table with four HARD rolls and small crunchy breadsticks. We ended up being charged 6 euro for the bread and our bill came to about 120 euro for the four of us. This included one bottle of wine, one bottle of still water, four bread rolls, four main meals (priced between 15 and 18 euro each), and one appetizer. The service was great and the menus were available in English. We decided to stick to tapas bars and more casual restaurants from then on.
