After a long day of sightseeing in Alexandria, we stopped for lunch at the Herman Palestine Hotel in the late afternoon. The hotel is a beach resort on the Mediterranean. We ate lunch in their main restaurant. Where we sat by the window, we had a great view of the beach. The beach is as littered with people, as one would expect, but there were very few people actually going in the water. We had a seafood meal, as one would expect to have when visiting a city on the sea. The meal was sea bass, calamari, and shrimp served with rice. For dessert, we were served a large plate of fruit that easily could have been the main meal. Just a few fruits the plate contained were black cherries, grapes, an apple, a peach, and watermelon. Some people worry about eating fresh fruit in Egypt because the water is not good for foreigners to drink and think the fruit is washed in the same water. According to our guide, you do not have to worry about the fruit because in places such as hotels that serve foreigners wash the fruit with bottled water instead of tap water. I know that during our trip, the fruit was not something that caused anyone problems.
As the meal was included with my tour, I am not sure on the exact price, but just have a guess based on the price for similar meals we payed for elsewhere.
