By far, Berlin offers the best coffee in La Paz, and most probably, this statement could be extended in a radius of a few hundred kilometres and still hold true. It is located in a very central location in a restored colonial building with extremely high ceilings which impart a sense of luxury. That is enhanced by the tastefully decorated interior in warm browns. You can choose between coaches along the walls or comfortable chairs. The service is good and the coffee is carefully prepared on perfectly attuned machines. As expected from such a place, it is more expensive than similar institutions around, but moderately so; the coffee served there is well worth its price, and with a simple espresso costing sixty-five cents, who can complain? A word of warning: coffee is a diuretic, as well as altitude (one of the body mechanisms to cope with the lack of oxygen is to reduce the amount of water in the blood, thus rising the red cells concentration); thus, it is recommended to limit the cups of coffee per day, as well as to accompany them with water or a juice.
