Sassi

I live in Phoenix, but I always feel like I am on vacation when I visit this authentic Italian restaurant in North Scottsdale. Sassi is set in some of the most breathtaking views in Arizona. The drive alone will make you feel like you are on vacation, but it is definitely worth the trip. The building itself is gorgeous. In fact, I told my husband if we ever get married again, I would do it right as Sassi. So, besides the great setting, is the food any good? YES! Everything is fresh, even the pasta. Dishes are simply prepared, so the flavor of all ingredients comes out in every bite you take. Nothing is over-seasoned to cover up inferior ingredients. Let’s put it this way, Sassi is the Italian restaurant where real Italians eat.

Sassi is what I call an "occasion" spot. We go when we are celebrating something. All items are a la carte and in Italian, but your server can help with questions and recommendations. The staff is highly trained and, at times, can seem rather pretentious, but will easily adapt to your dining style. The tab can get run up rather quickly when you add in side dishes and wine, so plan to split a few things, but save room for the sorbet or an espresso with biscotti for a true Italian experience.

Tips:

*Do not miss the meatball appetizer. It is fantastic!
*Split items when you can.
*If you have small children, find a babysitter and enjoy a romantic evening out.
* This is a dinner-only place that is closed on Mondays. Call before you go to make sure of seasonal hours and directions.
